Family Living provides children and adults with mental
retardation the opportunity to become contributing members of
a family.
In the family setting the individual receives instruction and support
in developing daily living skills and is encouraged to live up to his/her
potential. Life Sharing affords individuals the opportunity to become
more independent while still having the daily support and encouragement
of a family. A Residential Program Supervisor (RPS), employed by dFs,
acts as a liaison to the family and ensures that the family follows through
with meeting the resident’s need for supports in a healthy and
safe environment. The RPS and family work together to provide the individual
with opportunities for self-determination and community exploration.
